Sabrina Biagini

This is Sabrina's second summer at Bagels-n-Cream.  Her supervisor continues to commend her work.  Sabrina tells CDO, “My job keeps me on my feet and busy!  I do everything.  I help with whatever the owners need; cleaning, running food, stocking and re-stocking.”

“This summer I learned how to clean the bagel shelves and set the oven timer.”

Kirsten Marschilok

Kirsten is another participant coming back from last year to work for the summer program.  Kirsten tells CDO about her experience this summer -

“Washing buses helps me to keep cool on hot days!  I like to clean and vacuum the inside of the buses.  I always re-check my work so I don’t have to mop a second time”

Frankie Boest

Frankie has also worked for the summer program in the past.  She continues to do a great job at our Delhi CDO Workforce.  Frankie tells CDO, “I get to help and meet a lot of different people on my job.  It is teaching me responsibility.  I like to process the timesheets as they come into the office.  It makes the day go fast!”

“My experience here is helping me to learn how to write a resume from all of the typing of clients’ resumes that I do.”  Frankie not only got to help people this summer, but she also learned important life skills that will continue with her after she leaves the sumer program.

Marisa Miller

Marisa loved working in the gardens this she.  She told CDO, “I like  getting sunshine and working outside with Trevor (co-worker)!  He makes things fun!  I like that the food we grow supports the school!  My favorite job is to water the plants at the end of the day.  It helps me to wind down!”

“This is my third year as a gardener, and I learned how to use the rototiller this year!  I’m short so I had to develop my own technique to rock it side from side so it goes forward.”

Delaware Academy - Garden

Adia Vohs

Adia, yet another returning participant told CDO why she was working.  “I’m earning money to use toward buying school clothes and a car.”

She also told CDO, “I really like cleaning bus seats, you find all kinds of interesting things that kids put between the seats!”

Trevor Terry

Trevor had a great time this summer and he learned a thing or two as well!  He told CDO, “I like to hoe the weeds and dig up the tough roots.  I learned about rhizomes that are a root system that spreads underground.  If you miss pulling some weeds by the root, and cut the root by accident you’re going to get more weeds, so make sure you get ‘em by the roots!”

Trevor's advice for fellow gardeners: “Make sure you wear cooler clothes if you garden when it’s hot!!!  I gets very warm!”

Delaware Academy - Maintenance

Dana Hallock

CDO asked Dana what she liked about her summer job and she said, “I work with a great group of people!  I also like getting to see parts of the school that I never knew existed!"  Not only did Dana earn money, but she also learned important life skills -

“This job has taught me communication skills and how to be efficient in meeting deadlines to get the rooms done on time!”

Sean McGowan

“I like that the job is not too demanding!  It’s fun cleaning with people and moving rooms.”

“The job has taught me how to interact with others and to be friendly and less shy.  When you are friendly people tend to treat you better and give you more helpful advice!”

Collin Sparling

Collin told CDO, “The co-workers were the best part of my job!  We worked well together and got the job done!  I learned to work as a part of a team.”

Catherine DeDominicis

“I get to do something different everyday!  I type articles, work at the Farmers’ Market, deliver papers, file and do office work.  The Farmers’ Market is my favorite, being outside meeting with the public and selling Delhi T-shirts and coffee mugs.”

“When delivering  papers I learned that a clothespin on a mailbox is for the mail not the paper delivery.”

Noah Vohs

Here’s Noah on a bright sunny day delivering circulars as a part of his job at Decker Advertising!

Noah told a counselor about his summer job, "My job is fun in general!  I like walking around and talking to people along the way."  He also said,

Executive Director, Liz Callahan expressed her gratitude to the CDO Workforce Crew.

“The work crew is wonderful!  The kids are important to Hanford Mills.  We don’t have a maintenance staff so the work this crew does is  vital  and appreciated.  They are great kids who are successful contributors to the local community. Through this experience they are getting a good foundation for future work.”

The Historical Society hosted a Civil War Re-Enactment of the Battle of Honey Hill and the Battle of Little Round Top on July 18 and 19, 2015.  The re-enactment features and was formed in honor of the 144th New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment.  It was formed in the summer of 1962 with a Company from Delhi that fought valiantly in these battles.

The CDO Workforce Crew was instrumental in preparing for this re-enactment.  They cleaned the barn and moved heavy objects so it could provide a stage for the battle.  They tidied up exhibits and fixed benches and a picnic table.

In addition to the re-enactment, they painted the schoolhouse that is onsite!

Emily Gray

Emily worked in the dietary department of the hospital.  She told CDO about her job experience. Kayla Spagenberg

Kayla enjoyed her job at the Human Resources office at SUNY-Delhi.  Kayla said, "The  office staff is so much fun!  I like to reorganize and make new files.  I have been learning about transcripts which is helpful for when I go to college.  I learned that colleges are required to keep all student files.  I once had to get a file from 1917!"

Reyhana Raqib

Reyhana worked with the Office of Relations and University Police at SUNY-Delhi.  She told a CDO counselor, "My job was quite different than I expected.  I worked with a lot of people around the office.  I did many jobs including organizing, filing, publications lists, and filling out vehicle registrations.  I learned that office staff are a team that works together, it’s much different than how it looks when you visit an office."

Veteran's Affairs Office

John Hultenius

“I really wanted to do an office job and this is a great experience for me.  In addition to routine office work such as filing, doing errands and answering the phone, I was able to go to Albany to a VA Hospital.  I have learned that there are a lot of things the VA can do for veterans and I enjoying listening to them and their experiences.”

SUNY Delhi

Sign Designs

Mariah Van Buren

"I really enjoy applying vinyl letters to signs and seeing the finished product.  I am learning how to weed vinyl, which is a way to take the background away from letters on a vinyl sheet.  The latest thing I am learning is how to cut vinyl on the computer using a plotter cutter.  I have learned to be more careful when weeding.  Deb’s tip is 'Measure twice, cut once.' It works!"

Austin Bedient

"I learned how to work with different lawn care equipment and assisted with lawn care equipment repair.  There are so many types of different engines.

I learned that communication with your supervisor is very important when working in various locations each day!"
